An overview of prizes and awards received by iFR staff

iFR awarded at the "76th Annual Forum & Technology Display" of the Vertical Flight Society in the USA

Tobias Richter (iFR), Benjamin Rothaupt(iFR), Walter Fichter (iFR) and Benedikt Grebing (edm aerotec GmbH) have been honored with the "Best Paper in Session" award in the category "Avionics & Systems" at this year's Annual Forum of the Vertical Flight Society (October 6 - 8, 2020) for their paper "Stability Augmentation System for Coaxial Ultralight Helicopters". The work is the result of years of intensive cooperation between the iFR and the company edm aerotec GmbH in Geisleden, Thüringen.

Visiting Professor at the Beihang University

Within the program of the International Visiting Professor Program, Professor Fichter was invited by Beihang University to give a guest lecture in November 2018. Beihang University is one of the world's leading universities in the field of aerospace engineering and is considered the most renowned university in this field in China.

Award for iFR at MATLAB EXPO 2018

The iFR was represented at this year's MATLAB Expo on June 26 in Munich with a poster of the Flight Robotics Seminar. In the competition for the best poster, the iFR came third out of a total of twenty-seven participants. We are happy about the close and good cooperation with MathWorks!

Lorenz Schmitt and Walter Fichter receive publication prize from the University of Stuttgart

For their article "Continuous Singularity Free Approach to the Three-Dimensional Bearings-Only Tracking Problem" Lorenz Schmitt and Walter Fichter are awarded the Publication Prize of the University of Stuttgart 2017. The article is published in the AIAA Journal of Guidance Control and Dynamics, Vol. 39, No. 12, 2016.

Lorenz Schmitt receives award as young scientist of the Werner-von-Siemens-Ring Foundation

On December 13, 2017, Lorenz Schmitt will receive the medal of honor of the Werner-von-Siemens-Ring Foundation for his scientific work in the field of autonomous flying.

Johannes Stephan receives award for lecture on AIAA SciTech

The presentation "Fast Generation of Landing Paths for Fixed-Wing Aircraft with Thrust Failure" by Johannes Stephan at the AIAA Scitech Conference 2016 was awarded the "Best Presentation in Session Award". The event took place in San Diego, California, USA, from January 4 to 8, 2016.

Johannes Stephan receives DGLR Young Talent Award

Johannes Stephan receives an award for the promotion of young scientists from the German Aerospace Center (DGLR). In particular, the committee recognized his contribution to control allocation for over-determined systems in aerospace The prize was awarded on September 22, 2015 at the 64th German Aerospace Congress in Rostock.

Professor Fichter appointed as Associate Fellow vom American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) has appointed Prof. Fichter as Associate Fellow. This appointment recognizes important contributions to aerospace technology. The award was presented in January 2015 at the AIAA SciTech Forum 2015 in Orlando, Florida.

Michael Frangenberg receives award for lecture on AIAA SciTech

For the presentation "Fast Actuator Fault Detection and Reconfiguration for Multicopters" at the conference "AIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Control 2015" Michael Frangenberg received an award for the best presentation in the thematic block. The conference took place from January 5 to 9, 2015 in Kissimmee (Florida, USA).

Alexander Joos receives award as young scientist of the Werner-von-Siemens-Ring Foundation

On 13 December 2013 Alexander Joos will receive the medal of honor of the Werner-von-Siemens-Ring Foundation for his scientific work in the field of autonomous flying. The honor took place in a festive setting in the concert hall "Die Glocke" in Bremen.

Alexander Joos receives award for lecture at IFAC Workshop

Alexander Joos was awarded the prize for the best lecture in the topic block for the presentation "Method for Parallel FPGA Implementation nonlinear Model Predictive Control" at the IFAC Workshop on Embedded Guidance, Navigation and Control In Aerospace (EGNCA-2012). The event took place at the Indian Research Institute in Bangalore from February 13 to February 15, 2012

Award / Eurocopter Prize 2012 for Adrian Kus

Adrian Kus was awarded the Eurocopter Prize 2012 for his diploma thesis "Active Control of Ground Resonance based on Analytic Modeling Approach". This prize is awarded for outstanding achievements in the development of helicopter technologies.

For his diploma thesis "Two-Stage Motion Planning for Fixed-Wing UAV Incorporating a Tree-Based Local Planner with Motion Primitives" Moritz Niendorf was awarded the IAGB Foundation Prize for Young Scientists by the German Aerospace Center (DGLR).

Auszeichnung / Eurocopter Preis 2010 für Frau Katharina Wagner

Für ihre Diplomarbeit „Robustheitsanalyse und robuster Regelungsentwurf für die automatische Spurlaufregelung“ wurde Katharina Wagner mit dem Eurocopter Preis 2010 ausgezeichnet. Dieser Preis wird für hervorragende Leistungen im Bereich der Entwicklung von Helikoptertechnologien vergeben.

ZARM Auszeichnung 2007 für Abschlussarbeit für Martin Trittler

Für seine Diplomarbeit „Differential Optical Shadow Sensing Testbed for Gravitational Reference Sensors“, angefertigt in Stanford Universität und betreut vom Professor DeBra in Kooperation mit dem Institut für Flugmechanik und Flugregelung (iFR) wird Martin Trittler mit dem ersten Preis für Nachwuchswissenschaftler ZARM 2007 ausgezeichnet.
