Distributed Electric Propulsion for Control and Increased Efficiency

e-Genius-Mod with Distributed Electric Propulsion

In this configuration, the modular technology demonstrator e-Genius-Mod is used to explore distributed electric propulsion. Eight electric motors along the leading edge power the aircraft in its latest configuration. The extensive measurement system turns the scaled demonstrator into a flying wind tunnels. A state-of-the-art autopilot system guarantees repeatable conditions for recording high-quality sensor data during autonomous flight. The recorded data can be used to quantify how distributed electric propulsion affects drag, high-lift potential, and propeller noise. The system enables the demonstration of novel control concepts in flight to exploit the potential of distributed electric propulsion.
